Common questions
Before writing in, check below — your question may already be answered.
Why does a word appear in the results?
Word Unscrambler matches against a dictionary of over 370,000 English words. This includes proper Scrabble words, common abbreviations, and technical terms that appear in the public-domain word list we use. If a word seems unfamiliar, click it to see its definition — many obscure but real English words are valid Scrabble plays.
Why is a word missing from the results?
Our dictionary is comprehensive but not infinite. Some very rare words, recent coinages, and proper nouns are not included. If you believe a word should be in the dictionary, email us the word and we will look into adding it.
How do I find words for Wordle?
Type the letters you know are in the word (green and yellow positions) into the search box. The results will show every valid English word containing those letters. Use the length grouping to focus on 5-letter words. For more strategies, see our Wordle tips and tricks guide.
How do I find words for Scrabble?
Type your rack letters into the search box. Results are grouped by word length, making it easy to spot 7-letter bingos (which earn a 50-point bonus). Each word links to its definition so you can verify it is a valid play. For more strategies, see our Scrabble strategy guide.
Is Word Unscrambler free?
Yes. The tool is completely free to use, with no account required and no usage limits. We cover costs through advertising (Google AdSense), which is only loaded after you give consent via the cookie banner.
Does the site track my searches?
No. We do not log the letters or words you search for. The tool processes everything in memory and does not store your queries. You can read the full details on our privacy policy page.
Can I use Word Unscrambler on my phone?
Yes. The site is fully responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktop browsers. There is no app to download — just open wordunscramblr.eu in any browser and start typing.
How are definitions sourced?
Definitions come from dictionaryapi.dev, a free API that aggregates public-domain dictionary data. When you click a word, we fetch its definition on demand — this includes the part of speech, phonetic transcription, usage examples, and synonyms.
Reporting a bug
If something is not working as expected, please include the following in your email so we can investigate quickly:
- The browser and device you are using (for example, "Chrome 120 on Android").
- The letters or word you searched for.
- What you expected to happen versus what actually happened.
- A screenshot, if possible.
Feature requests
We love hearing ideas for improvements. Popular requests we have implemented include:
- Definitions for every result (click any word to see its meaning).
- Subset matching (find words that use some, not all, of your letters).
- Mobile-friendly design that works without an app.
- Word game guides on our blog.
If you have an idea, send it to admin@wordunscramblr.eu and we will consider it for a future update.
Dictionary suggestions
Our dictionary covers over 370,000 English words, but no dictionary is perfect. If you find a word that should be included (or one that should not be), email us with:
- The word in question.
- Whether you think it should be added or removed.
- A reference or reason (for example, "it is in the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary" or "it is a proper noun, not a common word").
We review suggestions periodically and update the dictionary when appropriate.
